2009 has been the most challenging economy in our lifetimes. As a result of the turmoil, more CEOs are in transition than ever and several Alliance CEOs have suggested that we bring them together to leverage the collective wisdom through the sharing of strategies, information and contacts.  By invitation only.

This Regional Alliance Meeting will feature Bob Hagerty, Chairman & CEO of Polycom.  Bob came to Polycom to build on the vision of delivering a total conferencing and collaboration solution to the customer. Polycom's solutions are unique, integrating voice, video, Web, and data conferencing, and the network to support them. He will talk with us about trends in collaboration and What he's learned about having global, remote teams collaborate.

Following Bob's keynote, members will begin their private Alliance Group meetings. We will also host a CEO Luncheon after the meeting, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, to enable our members to meet CEOs from throughout the Alliance.

For too long, the financial engineers on Wall Street got the world excited about financial value.  But CEOs know that the real value a company generates comes from great customers, products and services that solve real problems, loyal and talented employees, and more.  This event will have chief executives digging deeply into uncovering the real engines of value in each of their businesses, and what they can do to grow that value.  There will be no panel or speakers, but several attendees will be asked to offer their own company and situation as a case study for the collective wisdom of the group to analyze, discuss, and learn from.

Eamonn Kelly, CEO of Global Business Network, the renowned California-based, future-oriented network and consulting firm, and a partner of the Monitor Group will join us for this regional Alliance meeting.  Eamonn is the author of “Powerful Times” and will lead an in-depth discussion about his views of the future.

Following Eamonn's keynote, members will begin their private Alliance Group meetings. We will also host a CEO Luncheon after the meeting, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, to enable our members to meet CEOs from throughout the Alliance.

This regional Alliance meeting will feature "America's Business Coach," Victor Cheng.  Victor is an expert at showing business owners how to profit in even the worst of economies. He has been featured as a small business, banking, and recession expert by the Fox Business Television Network, MSNBC, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News and World Report, SmartMoney magazine, Inc. magazine, TheStreet.com, and Monster.com. Victor will be discussing “Lessons from the Winners of the past 12 US Recessions” with us.

The Alliance of Chief Executives and the Bay Area Council are inviting Bay Area CEOs to come together to participate in an Alliance CEO Roundtable that will ask CEOs the question:  “If you were the chief executive of California, what would you do to fix our California state government?”

California was once was the envy of the nation with the country’s best schools, infrastructure system and a thriving economy.  Today our schools are the worst in nation, our unemployment rate is higher than the national average and California is consistently ranked the worst state in which to do business. Our legislature has failed to pass a budget on time 22 times in the past 30 years, costing the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.

Jim Wunderman, CEO of the Bay Area Council, wrote an opinion editorial in 2008 that suggested that we repair California through a limited Constitutional Convention. We believe that our state will continue to careen from one crisis to the next until we fix the system.  The Constitutional Convention is only one of the strategies that we will discuss this CEO Roundtable.

Ann Winblad is co-founding partner of Hummer Winblad Venture Partners. Ann co-founded Open Systems, Inc., a top selling accounting software company, with a $500 investment. She operated Open Systems for six years before selling it for $15 million. Prior to co-founding Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, Winblad served as a strategy consultant for clients such as IBM, Microsoft, and Price Waterhouse.
