Biography
John C. Racanelli, president of Racanelli Partners, consults with organizations that seek to improve their business through positive change, new approaches and excellence in leadership, planning and marketing. John founded his practice in 2000 to provide results-focused strategic planning, performance leadership training, marketing communications and organizational development to small- to medium-sized businesses (up to $50 million annual revenue), non-profit environmental organizations, museums, aquariums, and tourism-based businesses.
The mission of Racanelli Partners is to enhance its clients' effectiveness and measurably improving their business results through excellence in consulting, coaching and counsel. Today, this translates into working directly with CEOs and their leadership teams on a range of subjects including: strategic planning and strategy development; leading change; team development and leadership training; branding, marketing and communications; customer service; and organizational assessment.
In a 25-year career, John has led both businesses and non-profit organizations. He was the founding Vice President of Marketing for the acclaimed Monterey Bay Aquarium from 1984-1993, where he oversaw all aspects of marketing and development for the most successful public aquarium ever. He then was recruited to Florida to build, open and lead the $100-million Florida Aquarium, where he served from 1993-97 as its first CEO. He returned to California in 1998 to become chief operating officer of an exhibit design/fabrication firm in Marin and later served as Executive VP of Hornblower Cruises & Events. He began his career as a diver at Marine World Africa USA, where he 'came out of the tanks' to become sales and promotions manager in the early 1980s.
John majored in Environmental Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz and is currently completing work on a business degree in Strategic Management at Dominican University of California. He has spent the majority of his professional life in pursuits related to conservation and advocacy for the natural environment, with an emphasis on the world's oceans. He serves on a number of volunteer boards and writes and speaks on conservation and life balance topics. A native Californian, John is an avid surfer, sailor and US Masters swimmer. He resides with his family in Marin County.
