Facebook Acquires Strobe
November 9, 2011

Facebook is continuing its string of small acquisitions and has bought Strobe, a HTML5 app platform. Anyone following Facebook recently know that the site is very focused on HTML5 recently, so the acquisition is hardly surprising, especially since it's about the talent and not the technology.

"We’re happy to announce that, as of this week, the Strobe team is joining Facebook!," Charles Jolley, the founder of Strobe and the creator of the SproutCore JavaScript framework, announced.

"Strobe was founded on the belief that HTML5 can transform the way average people use their mobile phones through apps that are available everywhere, anytime, on any device," he explained.

Strobe will continue to be available in its current form, but will likely not see any further development. However, the open source SproutCore framework is being worked on by another team, so there's no danger there either.
