Congratulations to Peter Sortwell, CEO of Arborwell, and Rick Sutherland, CEO of ClickAway, whose companies were named to INC magazine’s inaugural “Build 100” list. The Build 100, is a new business index that honors an elite tier of companies that have expanded their employment in each of the past five years. The index was created by studying the growth performance of millions of U.S. midmarket companies between 2007 and 2012. This inaugural list celebrates agile, enduring firms across a spectrum of industries and includes what’s being called “America’s Strongest and Most Strategic Growth Firms.”
According to Build, the research team and media company created by editors from INC magazine, The Build 100 is the result of identifying 100,000 mid-sized U.S. companies (with 85-999 employees) who were then studied by INC Economist-in-Residence Gary Kunkle. Kunkle’s goal was to find companies that added head count for five consecutive years from 2007 to 2012, during the country’s “Great Recession.” The standard was so difficult that only 1.5 percent of companies made the cut. In the end, 100 were chosen to be part of a larger business research project and became The Build 100, the country’s “sustained growth champions.”
