Rachel Hauwitz of Caribou Biosciences Featured in Walter Isaacson’s New Book

March 16, 2021

Congratulations to Alliance member Rachel Haurwitz, Co-Founder & CEO of Caribou Biosciences, who is featured in Walter Isaacson’s latest best-seller, The Code Breaker. The book tells the incredible story of Jennifer Doudna and her pioneering work to develop CRISPR gene editing for which she was awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. As described in Chapter 15, Jennifer told Rachel that she’d been, “thinking that maybe we ought to start a company around using Cas6 and some of the other CRISPR enzymes as a tool.”  And, “with no hesitation,” Haurwitz responded, “Of course we should.” Together, they launched Caribou Biosciences in 2001, and the world may never be the same!
