Savioke Expands Robotic Reach from Hotels to FedEx

A Silicon Valley robotics company that had been providing robots to hotels to help with room service duties has broadened its focus and is now working with FedEx to move items around its Collierville, Tennessee, information technology center.
San Jose-based Savioke is using its Relay robot to act as mailroom attendants, picking up and delivering items around the facility, according to a report in Quartz.
The robots can transport about 10 pounds of goods, which have made them a good fit at hotels like the Aloft Cupertino, one of the first hotels to test the Relay. But the company sees a broader application for the Relay as other robotics firms test products that act as food delivery services.
“Our goal is to change the way we think about moving items from one place to another,” Adrian Canoso, Savioke’s head of product and design, told Quartz. "We want Relay to be pretty much everywhere,” he said.
Savioke has raised $17 million over three rounds of financing, most recently a $12 million Series A in January 2016 that was led by Intel Capital.
